Today was another day filled with exploring...somewhat. My roommate, another girl, and I went back to the San Pedro mall again just to look around again and check out some movie times. On our way there, we always pass this big white house and today we finally decided to stop and take photos outside of it (photo is attached to this post). I did some research when I got home and actually found out it was the President of Costa Rica's house! I figured it was some sort of government building/house, because it looks like the White House. The research revealed that the President of Costa Rica is currently Laura Chinchilla Miranda. She is 55 years old and has been the President since May 8, 2010. Also, she is Costa Rica's first female president, which is really cool!
Anyways, after we went to the San Pedro Mall, we stopped at the little fresh market again and ended up getting food for lunch. I got a big croissant filled with ham & cheese for ¢700 colones (a little over $1). It was SO GOOD! So after we had lunch from the market, my roommate and I walked back to that park I mentioned in a previous blog post, the one that has the graffiti walls. They were actually really creative and more of a display of artwork, than just "normal graffiti". I attached a photo of some of my favorites to this post. It was so cool to look at each section of the wall with the different pictures on it!
After the park, we wanted to explore some of the areas down past the clinic where my internship is at. I also attached a photo of the clinic in case anyone is interested in seeing where I intern at! We didn't really discover much, except a park with a swimming pool and some grassy areas. Also, there was a really pretty view when we were coming back, which I attached that photo as well! There are some really gorgeous mountains that surround the city. Photos don't do any justice though, which is why I haven't taken any! The last photo on this post shows some of the mountains. When we were walking, we could look off into the distance at the mountains and see steam coming from some of the tops of them. I wonder if those ones were volcanoes! I heard that there are a lot of volcanoes here, but they usually don't erupt. Or if they do, it never harms the people. We also thought there were hot springs near some of the areas where we saw smoke. It was so awesome to see those sights today! I can't wait to go on some of the excursions and hope to take some really pretty pictures! After all this walking and exploring this weekend, I need a serious foot massage!
